- From Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, boat-based recreational groundfish in California’s Southern Groundfish Management Area is offshore-only, seaward of the 50-fathom Rockfish Conservation Area line. Nearshore rockfish, cabezon, and greenling are prohibited for boat anglers.

- CDFW’s Sept. 25 in-season update, reported by Siskiyou News, puts Shasta River net upstream passage at 2,020 adult Chinook through Sept. 24 — up from 629 a week earlier. Coho are still zero. These are not final escapement numbers.
- NorCal Fish Reports’ Sept. 28 dock: Berkeley’s California Dawn II went 14 anglers for 28 kings to 27 pounds, Reel Addiction 2 went 6 for 12, and Sausalito’s Hog Heaven went 11 for 22 kings to 28 pounds. Emeryville that day listed no kings.
- Point Loma Sportfishing’s Sept. 28 sheet: 2 boats, 32 anglers, 57 yellowtail, 37 yellowfin tuna, 6 skipjack, and 3 dorado. Daily Double’s afternoon half-day took every yellowtail. Mission Belle carried the tuna.

- H&M Landing’s Sept. 28 sheet: 7 boats, 172 anglers, 820 yellowfin tuna, and 145 bullet tuna. Sea Adventure 80’s 3-day led with 364 yellowfin. Little G’s 2.5-day accounted for 6 bluefin, listed up to 190 pounds, and a striped marlin.
- Fish Emeryville’s Sept. 28 dock, as of 2:30 p.m.: 2 boats, 32 anglers, 320 rockfish, and 32 lingcod. Sea Wolf’s full day led with 200 rockfish and 26 lingcod. No king salmon were listed.
- 22nd Street Landing’s Sept. 28 sheet is one boat. Freedom’s 1.5-day, 30 anglers, landed 85 yellowfin tuna, 15 yellowtail, 12 dorado, and 10 bluefin tuna.
- Morro Bay Landing’s Sept. 27 sheet: 3 boats, 76 anglers, 509 rockfish, 120 bocaccio, 76 red rockfish, 55 copper rockfish, and 44 lingcod to 18 pounds. Endeavor’s full day added the landing’s only bluefin tuna.
- Dana Wharf’s Sept. 27 sheet: 9 boats, 11 trips, 244 anglers, 561 bonito, 446 bullet tuna, and 107 yellowfin. Dana Pride led the yellowfin with 52. Half-day boats released 480 calico bass.
- Channel Islands Sportfishing’s Sept. 27 Oxnard sheet: 7 boats, 168 anglers, 546 whitefish, 372 rockfish, and 295 calico bass. Island Fox’s full day added 25 yellowtail and a striped marlin. Indicator’s overnight accounted for all 32 lingcod.
- Seaforth’s Sept. 27 dock, as of 2:30 p.m.: 8 boats, 10 trips, 321 anglers, 425 yellowfin tuna, 208 barracuda, and 154 dorado. Pacifica’s 2.5-day checked in 163 yellowfin. Aztec led the dorado with 91.

- Fish Emeryville’s Sept. 25 sheet, as of 2:30 p.m.: 4 boats, 71 anglers, 490 rockfish, 35 lingcod, 24 king salmon, and 3 bonito. New Huck Finn and Sea Wolf carried the rockfish; Pacific Pearl and Scallywag split the kings.
- Active NorCal's Sept. 23 report: biologists watching nests below Shasta Dam figured in early September that about one in five Chinook eggs might not survive, and the river has warmed past the roughly 53.5°F mark where those eggs start to die.
- Jim Taibi's Sept. 20 Tackle Express report: Castaic surface temps have dropped into the mid-70s, live shad is still producing 30 to 50 fish half-days with bass to 5 pounds, and the bigger fish have moved off the bank into the middle of the coves.
