San Diego week through Sept. 24: nearly 17,500 fish, yellowfin still the bulk

San Diego’s charter fleet had a heavy week. Fish City’s city counts through Sept. 24, 2026 show 17,449 fish from Sept. 18 through Sept. 24, across 4 landings, 42 boats, and 135 trips. The same dates last year were 9,148 fish on 123 trips, which the sheet marks as a 91 percent increase.

Yellowfin tuna were still the bulk, at 7,923 fish. Dorado followed at 3,036, bonito at 1,973, and calico bass at 1,823. By landing, Seaforth reported 6,591 fish, H&M Landing 6,547, Fisherman’s 3,096, and Point Loma Sportfishing 1,215.

The Sept. 24 multi-day returns were a different mix than the midweek yellowfin days. Ranger 85, an H&M Landing 3.5-day with 20 anglers, came in with 39 dorado, 25 skipjack, 19 yellowfin, 7 wahoo, and 6 yellowtail. New Lo-An, a Point Loma 3-day, posted 84 dorado and 4 wahoo. Legend, an H&M 3-day with 29 anglers, had 17 dorado, 12 yellowtail, 10 yellowfin, and 3 wahoo. The Sept. 24 yellowfin column is thin — 29 fish — because only three trips were reported that day, against a much busier stretch earlier in the week.
