Privacy Policy

This policy covers The Gillnet fishing news reader: the website at https://www.thegillnet.com and the Android app (net.thegillnet.app). The Gillnet is operated by Christopher Young.

What we collect
On the website. When you open a page, your browser requests public news from thegillnet.com. That is how the site works. We do not ask you to create an account.
In the Android app. The app fetches the public news feed and articles from thegillnet.com over the network. On the device it may store:
- a cached copy of the feed
- briefs you save or bookmark
- an optional home-state shortcut preference
- notification “already seen” ids
- a push token, if you turn notifications on
That storage stays on the device (AsyncStorage). Uninstalling the app removes it. We do not require a login.
Optional desk alerts use Android’s notification permission (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) so the app can tell you about new briefs.
The news app does not use GPS or other location permission. It does not take payments.
How we use it
- Load and cache public fishing news so you can read the desk.
- Remember saved briefs and your optional home-state shortcut.
- Optional alerts for new briefs. Notification ids and any stored push token are for those desk alerts, not for sale.
- Open links you tap — source articles, official fishing-license pages, and the merch shop — in your browser.
What we don’t do
- No account or password on the news site or news app.
- No in-app checkout or card collection in the news app.
- No GPS tracking.
- We do not sell your information.
- We are not claiming a complete list of every log a host or browser might keep. What we know we do is listed here: feed fetch, on-device storage, optional notifications, and outbound links.
Third parties / outbound links
The app and site may open other websites in your browser, including:
- source articles linked from a brief
- official state fishing-license pages
- merch at thegillnet.net, which is a separate shop
Purchases on thegillnet.net go through that site’s own checkout and payment processors. Their terms and privacy practices apply to those orders.
Those destinations have their own policies. We are not responsible for how they handle data once you leave thegillnet.com.
Children’s privacy
The Gillnet is for a general audience of anglers, not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email thegillnet59@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
