Castaic week of Sept. 18: excellent bass and stripers on the shoreline chase

Chad Burton and Chris Borden, writing Sept. 18, 2026, for SoCal Fish Reports, say Castaic held about 95 percent of capacity with water near 80°F. Fishing was excellent last week for both bass and striped bass.
Most of the effort was on fish pushing bait against the shoreline in coves and flats. Sharon's Rest produced through the day. Largemouth and smallmouth took white Espetites and other walking baits, and poppers got bit as well. Flukes, spoons, and A-rigs accounted for a lot of the fish. Stripers were in the same water and ate many of the same lures, but they were harder to single out on purpose.
Catfish were strong on fresh dead shad and chicken liver. The shop line on the report is Cope's Tackle, 661-679-6351.
