Colorado fishing
News-desk briefs whose primary water is Colorado.
- Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Southwest Region rescinded voluntary fishing closures on 11 river sections effective Sept. 30 after rain and cooler water eased heat-and-drought stress. Kokanee take stays prohibited in the Gunnison above the Blue Mesa standing-water line until Nov. 1.
- Effective Sept. 23, Colorado Parks and Wildlife reopened the Eagle and Crystal rivers after cooler water and monsoon rain. Elk and Yampa voluntary closures stay; a mandatory Stagecoach reach on the Yampa remains closed.
- CPW authorized a public fish salvage at Hugo Ponds SWA beginning Sept. 1 under Regulation 104.G ahead of pond draining for habitat work. Size and bag limits are suspended there until the salvage is lifted; a license is still required.
- Crystal Fly Shop’s Sept. 2, 2026 report says CPW has a full-day voluntary closure from Highway 133 mile marker 64 to the Roaring Fork, while 30-plus miles of upper Crystal are low, clear, and on hoppers.
