CPW lifts voluntary fishing closures on the Eagle and Crystal rivers
Colorado Parks and Wildlife lifted voluntary fishing closures on the Eagle and Crystal rivers on Sept. 23, 2026, effective immediately. The Glenwood Springs notice credits recent monsoonal rain and cooler water temperatures.
That does not clear the rest of the drought list. Voluntary closures remain on parts of the Elk River and the Yampa River, where CPW still cites high water temperatures and extremely low flows. A mandatory fishing closure also stays on the Yampa from the Stagecoach State Park dam downstream 0.6 miles to the park boundary.
The agency thanked anglers who stayed off the Eagle and Crystal while those voluntary closures were up, and it asked anyone heading out to check conditions before they travel. CPW points to its 2026 Weather and Drought Closures page for the full set of mandatory and voluntary closures.
