Texas flounder harvest closes Nov. 1 through Dec. 14
Texas anglers have through Saturday, Oct. 31, to keep flounder before Texas Parks and Wildlife's annual fall closure begins on Nov. 1. From Nov. 1 through Dec. 14 the bag limit for all flounder species is zero. Normal harvest resumes Dec. 15.
Until the closure, the limit is five flounder per person per day with a 15-inch minimum length.
TPWD started the closure in 2021 to protect flounder during their fall migration to the Gulf, when large spawning females gather at passes and are easy to catch.
Next door, Louisiana's flounder closure is already underway. That state's season runs Oct. 15 through Nov. 30 and reopens Dec. 1. It covers recreational and commercial harvest, including shrimp-trawl bycatch, because Louisiana considers the stock overfished.
