- TPWD’s drawing for one alligator gar over 48 inches on the Trinity, from the I-30 bridge in Dallas to I-10 in Chambers County, takes applications through Sept. 30. The department is offering 150 authorizations. Winners are notified by Oct. 15.
- TPWD is taking Habitat and Angler Access Program proposals for fiscal years 2028–29. The release’s filing instructions run from 5 p.m. CDT Sept. 18 through 11:59 p.m. Dec. 31, 2026; an earlier line in the same release says Dec. 31, 2027.
- TPWD’s Sept. 14 release: a red tide bloom reported off Galveston since Sept. 8 is being sampled from Crystal Beach to Bolivar Roads and along southern Galveston Island. Cells are moderate to high; the kill is mostly Gulf menhaden and striped mullet.
- Capt. David Dillman’s Sept. 11 Galveston Daily News Reel Report says speckled trout and redfish are chewing from Freeport reefs to the Matagorda surf, with gigging flounder still good ahead of the first cool front.
