FWC sets Oct. 7 and Oct. 12 workshops on African pompano rules

Florida is asking anglers and commercial fishers what should change for African pompano before a rule package reaches the commission. A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission release dated Oct. 2, 2026, sets two virtual workshops on commercial and recreational harvest in state waters and adjacent federal waters.

Both sessions run 6 to 8 p.m. Eastern. The first is Wednesday, Oct. 7. The second is Monday, Oct. 12. The join link goes up the day of each workshop at MyFWC.com/SaltwaterWorkshops. Recordings will be posted on that page and on the FWC Saltwater YouTube channel after the meetings.

Staff say they will recommend proposed final rules at the Commission’s March 2027 meeting. Comments from the workshops go to commissioners with that package. FWC’s workshop page says the agency wants input on the full rule set, including size limits, bag limits, and gear. Written comments can go through the saltwater comments page or to Marine@MyFWC.com. The phone on the workshop page is (850) 487-0554. This is the African pompano comment period, not the Atlantic red snapper exempted-fishing permit already filed for Florida.
