Wisconsin fishing
News-desk briefs whose primary water is Wisconsin.
- Cade Laufenberg of Onalaska won the Phoenix BFL Great Lakes Division finale on the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien with 10 bass for 34 pounds, 4 ounces and $5,580. Co-angler Shaun Hansen weighed 17-6.
- Anglers still have through Sept. 30 for Wisconsin’s inland hook-and-line lake sturgeon season — one fish 60 inches or longer with a validated tag and registration.
- Dean Bortz in Outdoor News (Sept. 11): after DNR budget cuts threatened to dump Bayfield’s spring-hatched browns as 2–3 inch fingerlings in October, Friends of Wisconsin Fisheries paid to overwinter more than 120,000 Lake Superior browns at St. Croix Falls.
- A Sept. 9 Press Times column says spawn-minded Chinook will hit Green Bay and Lake Michigan tributaries in the coming weeks — and shore casters should be curing fresh skein now from Algoma, Kewaunee, Marinette, and Sturgeon Bay cleaning stations.
