Wisconsin inland stream trout harvest season ends Oct. 15
Wisconsin anglers have less than two weeks left on the statewide inland stream trout harvest. The Department of Natural Resources set the 2026–27 inland trout harvest season for streams, springs, and spring ponds from April 4 through Oct. 15, 2026 — a month earlier opener than prior years after strong public support at the 2025 Spring Hearings.
A 2026–27 general fishing license and inland trout stamp are required. The earlier harvest opener does not apply to inland lakes and ponds, which still follow the traditional first-Saturday-in-May start (May 2 in 2026). Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Green Bay, and Green Bay tributary trout seasons and bag limits were left unchanged.
DNR also notes some waters got bag and length changes this year where trout are abundant. Check the Guide to Wisconsin’s 2026–2027 Trout Fishing Regulations for water-specific rules, and keep invasive-species gear habits tight as fall fishing wraps on freestone streams.
