Galveston Bay reel report: jetty redfish schools, a 30-pound black drum, and harbor flounder

US FishingTexas

Late-October weekend anglers found plenty of action around Galveston Bay, according to Capt. David Dillman's Reel Report in The Galveston Daily News on Oct. 25.

Capt. Derrick Greene of Galveston Yacht Marina reported big schools of redfish on the jetties, caught on live and cut mullet. His anglers also caught speckled trout and keeper black drum. Flounder are showing up in Galveston Harbor, mostly small males with some big females mixed in, and a few pompano have been caught too.

Out of Clear Lake, Adam Sowers of Freedom Boat Club released a 30-pound black drum. His crew also boxed a two-angler limit of drum, a slot redfish, a trout and a flounder, fishing live shrimp under a popping cork.

Dillman and Capt. Juan Cruz fished north Galveston Bay on Friday with Doug Valdivia. They caught trout quickly, but the only redfish were undersized, along with some black drum. Joe and Pattie Holecek, fishing out of Eagle Point, came back with a limit of black drum, some small trout and one keeper red.
