ODFW closes lower Eagle Creek to angling Oct. 2–Dec. 31 for coho

Laws & LicensingOregon

Lower Eagle Creek is closed to angling so coho can rest. The Estacada News reported Oct. 1, 2026, that the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife shut the lowest reach in the Clackamas basin, from the mouth upstream to the Southeast Dowty Road Bridge, from Oct. 2 through Dec. 31.

Drought dropped the flow and piled fish into that reach, which made them easier to snag illegally. Several illegal-fishing cases this year drew Oregon State Police and citations. Coho here are listed as threatened under both the state and federal Endangered Species Acts.

Report suspected crimes against fish, wildlife, or habitat to the Turn In Poachers line, 1-800-452-7888. Callers can stay anonymous and may qualify for a cash award or hunter preference points.
