New Hampshire trout ponds close Oct. 16 until spring opener
New Hampshire Fish and Game’s fishing seasons page sets brook, rainbow, and brown trout on designated trout ponds from the fourth Saturday in April through Oct. 15. Oct. 16 starts the closed period, which runs until the fourth Saturday in April. Wild trout ponds, open from the fourth Saturday in April through Labor Day, are already closed.
Trout in rivers and streams run Jan. 1 through Oct. 15. Wild trout streams run Jan. 1 through Labor Day. Lake trout and/or salmon waters run Jan. 1 through Sept. 30, with ice fishing only from Jan. 1 through March 31. Bass on trout ponds follow the same Oct. 15 end, with catch-and-release from May 15 through June 15 where that rule is noted. Many waters listed as “all other waters” have no closed season; the Freshwater Fishing Digest carries the water-specific rules.
