Mississippi recreational red snapper stays closed for the rest of 2026
Mississippi’s recreational red snapper season is done for 2026. A Department of Marine Resources release distributed Oct. 1, 2026, out of Biloxi says the state season in territorial waters closed at 11:59 p.m. local time on Sunday, Sept. 27, and shall remain closed for the rest of the year.
No red snapper may be landed or possessed in Mississippi state waters while that season is closed. Tails n’ Scales, the mandatory reporting program, showed landings of about 98 percent of the 2026 Mississippi private recreational annual catch limit.
This is the closure, not the Labor Day weekend reopen already on the desk.
