Salvage order opens Lamont and Johnson Reservoirs through Dec. 31

Laws & LicensingIdaho

Idaho Fish and Game issued a salvage order for Lamont and Johnson Reservoirs in Franklin County, effective Sept. 8 through Dec. 31, 2026. The Sept. 10 announcement says Consolidated Irrigation Company is draining both reservoirs for irrigation. Levels were dropping fast and were anticipated to be drained by about Sept. 20. Refill is expected to start Jan. 1, 2027. The order is meant to let the public use fish that will not survive once the water becomes unsuitable.

During the salvage, fish may be taken by any method except firearms, explosives, chemicals, or electric current. Bag, possession, size, and rod limits are suspended. A valid Idaho fishing license is still required, and no live fish may leave the reservoirs. Under Consolidated Irrigation Company rules, watercraft are limited to fishing vessels, and each boat must show an Idaho State Department of Agriculture aquatic invasive species inspection from the prior five days — proof in the vehicle window or on request.

Winder Reservoir, also in Franklin County, is already under a separate salvage that expires Oct. 31, 2026. This order is separate from the fall Chinook and steelhead bag-limit cuts already on the desk. Southeast Region questions go to the Pocatello office at 208-232-4703.
