Kahoʻolawe November trolling weekends set for Nov. 7–8 and 21–22
Kahoʻolawe's limited trolling calendar for November is set. Maui Now reported Oct. 21, 2026, that the Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission listed Nov. 7–8 and Nov. 21–22. Each window runs from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Access stays tightly controlled because of unexploded ordnance and marine-resource protection. On those weekends, registered vessels may troll in water deeper than 30 fathoms inside the reserve, which reaches two nautical miles from the island. All other fishing, ocean recreation and commercial activity remain prohibited.
Hawaiʻi Administrative Rules require annual registration before a vessel enters to troll. The fee is $25. Skippers must file a catch report after every trip, including blank days. A newer permit condition makes the permittee responsible for keeping invasive algae, barnacles and other alien species out of the reserve, and vessel hulls must be clean. Failure to register can bring criminal fines up to $1,000 or 30 days in jail, plus administrative fines of $10,000, $15,000 and $25,000 for a first, second and later violation within five years. Packets are at kahoolawe.hawaii.gov or through Dean Tokishi at 808-243-5022.
