Upper Trinity adult Chinook fishery closes Oct. 28 as quota nears

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says anglers on the upper Trinity River have nearly reached this season's adult fall-run Chinook quota. Adult salmon retention from the Old Lewiston Bridge downstream to the Highway 299 West bridge at Cedar Flat will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The upper Trinity's share of the adult quota was 536 fish. It is part of a combined Klamath-Trinity allocation of about 3,200 adults that CDFW splits among river reaches and tracks in season.

The reach stays open for jack salmon of 23 inches or less after the closure. Any adult Chinook caught must be released right away. Anglers need a 2026 North Coast Salmon Report Card. CDFW's Klamath-Trinity fishing hotline at (800) 564-6479 has the latest quota status.

The lower Trinity reach already closed to adult retention earlier this month.
