Pacific Queen returns to San Diego with 312 yellowfin and 8 wahoo
The offshore tuna bite out of San Diego's Fisherman's Landing was still strong this week. The Pacific Queen came back on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 22, from a three-day trip with 312 yellowfin tuna and 8 wahoo for 25 anglers. The landing says about half the yellowfin were 18 to 35 pounds and the other half 40 to 80 pounds.
Closer to home, the Dolphin's 3/4-day trip on Oct. 22 caught 55 calico bass (with 100 more released), 38 sand bass, 3 yellowtail, 2 skipjack, 2 sheephead and 3 sculpin for 19 anglers. The day before, the same boat had 14 yellowtail, 68 sand bass, 36 calico bass, 16 skipjack and a white seabass for 17 anglers.
The landing says bass and bonito fishing on the Dolphin's half-day trips has been excellent for the past couple of weeks, with some chances at yellowtail. Sardines are on board, and the crew suggests 25- to 30-pound flyline and reverse dropper-loop setups with 30-pound fluorocarbon leaders.
