Lower Trinity adult fall Chinook closes after Oct. 16 quota hit

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said on Oct. 15, 2026, that the adult fall-run Chinook quota on the Lower Trinity below the Denny Road Bridge at Hawkins Bar is 536 adults. The department projects that quota will be met as of 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.

Adult harvest then closes on the Trinity from the Denny Road Bridge at Hawkins Bar downstream to the confluence with the Klamath. Jack Chinook 23 inches or shorter remain harvestable. Every adult Chinook must be released immediately.

The Klamath and Trinity together carry a combined adult fall Chinook quota of about 3,200 fish in 2026, and different sections have different quotas. Quota status is on the hotline at (800) 564-6479. A 2026 North Coast Salmon Report Card is required: fill it out at the start of fishing and record each harvest or release in real time. Contacts listed with the notice are Dan Troxel of the Klamath River Project and Peter Tira in Communications.
