Happy Hooker finds wide-open rockfish and lingcod at the Farallones, plus bonito and a mako

The Farallon Islands were wide open on Saturday. The Happy Hooker out of Berkeley reported on NorCal Fish Reports that its 11 anglers got easy rockfish limits, heavy on big blues and yellows, along with a full limit of quality lingcod.

The trip had a couple of extras. A school of bonito crashed bait next to the boat and a couple were landed on jigs, and a mako shark hung around the boat picking off rockfish on the way up. Jonathon Smith wrote the report; the boat is run by Captains Chris and Jonathon Smith.

The boat says there is one more weekend of straight rockfish and lingcod trips before it switches to rockfish-and-crab combo trips starting Nov. 7.
