Pacific Queen calls in 130 yellowfin, Liberty returns with 107 and three wahoo
The offshore yellowfin bite out of San Diego's Fisherman's Landing was still going on Tuesday, Oct. 20. In the landing's 2:35 p.m. update, the Pacific Queen called in 130 yellowfin tuna, 60 of them in the 40- to 80-pound class, and said it was still seeing good sign of fish.
The Liberty came back that morning from a two-day charter with 107 yellowfin (25 to 40 pounds), 47 skipjack and 3 wahoo for 22 anglers. Closer to home, the Dolphin's 3/4-day trip called in 10 yellowtail, 5 white seabass, 110-plus bass and 40 barracuda kept, with 100 more barracuda released, for 29 anglers in good weather.
On Monday, Oct. 19, the Pacific Dawn called in 4 yellowfin of 40 to 60 pounds for seven anglers on a 1.5-day limited-load trip. The Dolphin's 3/4-day that day had 17 yellowtail (20 to 25 pounds), 57 skipjack, 2 white seabass up to 35 pounds, 60 calico bass, 65 sand bass and 2 halibut for 26 anglers. The landing says the Dolphin's half-day trips have had hot bass and bonito fishing for the past couple of weeks, with sardines on board. It suggests 25- to 30-pound flyline and dropper-loop setups with 30-pound fluorocarbon.
