Berkeley Sunday: California Dawn 2 lands 31 kings to 26 pounds

Berkeley Marina still had an October salmon bite on Sunday. Captain James Smith of California Dawn Sportfishing reported Oct. 4, 2026, that California Dawn 2 finished with 31 salmon to 26 pounds for 22 anglers. He called it a legitimate shot at limits and “great quality fish.”

The second boat was on bonito, not kings. New California Dawn, Smith wrote, had a wide-open bonito bite and quit with more than enough: 70 bonito to 16 pounds for 11 anglers. He described the weather as spectacular.

Smith said a bonito combo was set for Monday morning on New California Dawn, with salmon room on California Dawn 2 starting Tuesday. The boats fish out of Berkeley Marina. This is Sunday’s captain’s count, separate from Emeryville’s Oct. 3 rockfish and king sheet and from the Sept. 29 California Dawn report already on the desk.
