Peckerwood Lake closes to fishing Oct. 31 for waterfowl rest

Laws & LicensingArkansas

Peckerwood Lake closes to fishing on Oct. 31. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s weekly fishing report dated Oct. 15, 2026, carries an update from Donna Mulherin at Herman’s Landing: anglers have these next two weeks, then the lake serves as a waterfowl rest area through duck season.

The lake is extremely low. Mulherin, who has lived around Peckerwood since 1976, told the report this is the lowest she has seen it since probably 2015. Boats still getting out are mostly johnboats and plastic boats on trolling motors. Some larger boats have been tried, but they are not running the big motors. The lake is full of stumps.

Crappie is what people are fishing for. They are biting jigs and minnows around those stumps. A few catfish are being caught, mostly by anglers whose sights were set on crappie.
