Wyoming Game and Fish lifts many voluntary catch-and-release heat closures

Many of Wyoming’s summer heat voluntary catch-and-release asks are off. Game and Fish said cooler weather lowered stream temperatures enough to lift multiple voluntary C&R fishing closures statewide, with forecasts pointing to a continuing cool-down that eases stress on trout.

Not every voluntary closure is gone. Anglers still need to check the department’s Fishing in the Heat page or call a local Game and Fish office before fishing a specific water. The agency had monitored conditions since the closures were posted and moved waters back to standard regulations as temperatures allowed.

Separately, WGFD closes 2026 watercraft registrations during October and readies 2027 registrations for Nov. 1, while aquatic invasive species stickers for 2026 remain available in October. Fall fishing remains a solid option as hunting seasons ramp up, but heat-closure status is water-by-water until the last listings clear.
