Wisconsin DNR sets an Oct. 15 Ashland meeting on a smaller WI-2 lake trout quota
Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources scheduled a public informational meeting for Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. in the Vaughn Public Library Community Room, 502 Main St W, Ashland. The subject is the recommended lake trout quota for WI-2.
More sea lamprey and weaker recruitment are the reason for a recommended 22 percent reduction in the state allocation. That cut would be split evenly between the commercial and recreational fisheries.
Lake Superior Fisheries Biologist Dray Carl said the department updates these quotas about every three years. The release lists him at Dray.Carl@wisconsin.gov and 715-331-9036. DNR posted the notice on Sept. 30, 2026.
