Utah Wildlife Board OKs Lake Powell striped bass bowfishing and setlines for 2027–28

Laws & LicensingUtah

Utah anglers targeting Lake Powell stripers will get new tools under 2027–28 rules. The Wildlife Board on Sept. 18 approved Division of Wildlife Resources proposals that allow bowfishing for striped bass at Lake Powell and allow setline use there, among a package of statewide and regional fishing updates backed by angler survey support.

Other approved changes include multi-method take options for several nongame and rough-fish species, a zero daily limit for largemouth bass at eight Wasatch Front community ponds, protective walleye slot rules at Starvation Reservoir, and bonus kokanee limits at Causey and Stateline reservoirs. Spearfishing reopen timing after spawning closures was clarified for 6 a.m. on the fourth Saturday in June.

The board also advanced conservation measures such as zero daily limits for several native fishes reclassified as game fish and a zero white sturgeon daily limit. Anglers should treat these as 2027–28 guidebook changes, not immediate in-season law, and confirm the published proclamation before relying on a new method at Powell or elsewhere.
