The Texas Angler Report is publishing again after TPWD’s weekly pause

US FishingTexas

Texas has a statewide weekly fishing report again, just not from the agency. In an Oct. 4, 2026 column for the Killeen Daily Herald, guide Bob Maindelle writes that Texas Parks and Wildlife’s weekly freshwater and saltwater reports stopped after the Feb. 25 edition. By the end of August, that pause was still on.

Julia McDonald, founder of Cool Brand Media, told Maindelle the same team relaunched the sheet independently on Sept. 3 as the Texas Angler Report. A Cool Brand Media release quoted in the column says it goes out free every Thursday morning by email or text and covers 116 bodies of water from the Panhandle to the Lower Laguna Madre. Each entry is from a guide, marina, or local angler who was on that water that week, under their own name. McDonald said the old agency report grew from 90 waters to 116 and that the guides were never paid for the notes.

This week’s Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow entries in that report, Maindelle writes, come from Tommy and Sylvia Maedgen’s white bass and catfish trip with Holding the Line Guide Service. TPWD’s own weekly report pages still say reporting is on hold.

This is a The Gillnet news desk summary, not a reprint.
