The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) stocked 4,749 trout in Upstate waters from Oct. 23 through Oct. 29, according to its weekly trout stocking summary.

Crews stocked the Chauga River and Brasstown Creek on Monday, Oct. 26, returned to the Chauga on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and stocked the North Saluda River, Middle Saluda River and East Fork of the Chattooga River on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The previous week, Oct. 16 to 22, SCDNR put 4,759 trout into the Big and Little Eastatoee rivers and Little Canebrake (the upper Eastatoee), the Chattooga River, the East Fork of the Chattooga and the South Saluda River.

SCDNR doesn't forecast stocking dates, but the weekly summary shows what was stocked the week before. The tailrace trout fishery on the Lower Saluda River near Columbia is stocked seasonally, usually starting the second or third week of December and finishing by March. Questions about Upstate (Region 1) stocking go to Dan Rankin at 864-986-6246, and Lower Saluda questions to Jason Bettinger at 803-353-8232.
