Oklahoma seasonal trout areas open Nov. 1 on Blue River and other waters

Oklahoma’s winter trout calendar is almost here. The Department of Wildlife Conservation stocks several designated seasonal trout areas from Nov. 1 into March (dates vary by water). Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area near Tishomingo stocks Nov. 1 through March 31; from Nov. 1 through the end of February the upper walk-in section is catch-and-release only with barbless artificial flies and lures.

Robbers Cave’s Fourche Maline stretch stocks Nov. 1 through March 15. Guymon’s Thompson Park lake and Medicine Creek below Gondola Lake also open on the Nov. 1 calendar, and Lake Carl Blackwell’s Turtle Pond now takes the Perry CCC trout that used to go elsewhere. Lower Mountain Fork River remains a year-round trout area with its own Area 1 and Area 2 limits.

Lower Illinois River is also year-round on paper, but ODWC has temporarily paused stockings there after federal hatchery flood losses — do not expect fresh plants until fish are available again. Buy a fishing license and trout stamp before Nov. 1 if you plan to keep trout.
