Hinckley Lake gets 6,000 juvenile bass, with 30,000 bluegill next
Hinckley Lake is being restocked with small fish, not catchable trout. Aquatic biologist Mike Durkalec’s Cleveland Metroparks report posted Oct. 8, 2026, says the park and the Ohio Division of Wildlife stocked 6,000 juvenile largemouth bass at Hinckley on Tuesday and would stock 30,000 juvenile bluegill on Friday. Durkalec wrote that those fish will take about three years to reach a size people can harvest.
The same weekly note says early steelhead were still being caught around Cleveland as temperatures cooled, with the Rocky River marina the most consistent spot, plus the rocks at Edgewater, East 55th, and Wildwood, and a few fish in the lower Chagrin and Euclid Creek. More coho salmon turned up in the Rocky River. Durkalec treats them as strays from Lake Huron, where coho are stocked. Angler notes in the report include a Rocky River walleye of 30 inches and two Cuyahoga River flatheads, one 22 pounds and one that maxed a scale past 30 pounds.
The two-line rule Durkalec already described in the Oct. 1 report is unchanged: it took effect July 18, 2026, after 93% support in a poll of 350 local anglers, and it covers the listed Metroparks lakes and ponds. Joint waters with the Division of Wildlife stay on the state rule of three lines.
