Pyramid Lake Lahontan cutthroat season opens Oct. 1 for tribal permit holders

Laws & LicensingNevada

Pyramid Lake’s Lahontan cutthroat season opens Oct. 1. Western Outdoor News, in a Sept. 8 piece by Hurley written ahead of the opener, notes that the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe runs the season, not the state.

A tribal fishing and boating permit is required. Permits are at pyramidlake.us/permits or the Ranger Station in Sutcliffe. A Nevada state fishing license is not required.

The slot is keepers from 17 to 20 inches, or over 24 inches: two fish in the small slot, or one small and one large. Hooks must be barbless. Bait is banned. Filleting on the Reservation is not allowed. Closures include 1,000 feet around the Marble Bluff Fish Way and the Sutcliffe spawning channel, the Needles shoreline from Wizard Cove to Fox Bay, and the Truckee River and Delta. Boats stay 250 feet off shore anglers, and there is no fishing from docks. Hours run from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. Confirm the live tribal rules before you go.
