New Mexico Free Fishing Weekend is Sept. 26–27 statewide

Laws & LicensingNew Mexico

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, via an EIN Presswire release dated Sept. 21, 2026, set Free Fishing Weekend for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27, 2026. Anyone may fish without a license in public fishing waters statewide those two days, which also fall on National Hunting and Fishing Day weekend.

Bag limits and all other fishing rules still apply. Department of Wildlife Director Mike Sloane said fishing helps people connect with New Mexico’s waters and wildlife and build appreciation for conserving those resources, calling Free Fishing Weekend “the perfect time to get started.”

The department points anglers to its weekly fishing reports, interactive fishing map, and conditions tools by water body and species. Confirm the live NMDGF site before you skip the license booth.
