NH Area 1A herring Season 2 starts with zero landing days through Oct. 11

Atlantic herring Area 1A Season 2 opened with no landing days. New Hampshire Fish and Game said Sept. 23, 2026, that the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s herring board set Season 2 days-out on Sept. 21 for Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. About 2,075 metric tons of the Area 1A catch remain for that period.

Landing days are zero from Oct. 1 through Oct. 11. They are two days from 12:01 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, then zero again from Oct. 14 through Nov. 8. Starting 12:01 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, landing days are four a week: Monday 12:01 a.m. through Thursday 11:59 p.m. The limits hold until 92 percent of the Area 1A total allowable catch is projected to be exceeded, or until the board changes them.

The same release reminds harvesters that the Massachusetts/New Hampshire spawning area, including New Hampshire waters, is closed from 12:01 a.m. Sept. 23 through 11:59 p.m. Nov. 3. That spawn closure is already on this desk. The new piece is the Season 2 landing-day calendar. Incidental herring of up to 2,000 pounds a calendar day may still be landed.
