Comments due Nov. 9 on a proposed Yellowstone River fishing access site near Terry

US FishingMontana

Anglers and floaters on the lower Yellowstone River could get a new launch in Prairie County. The Bureau of Land Management has opened a 15-day public comment period on a proposed Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Terry Fishing Access Site. It would sit on BLM land east of Terry, between the existing Bonfield and Fallon Bridge access sites.

The plan includes road improvements, a parking area, a concrete vault toilet and a concrete boat ramp. Right now the land can be reached only by a two-mile dirt road running south from Coal Creek Road. The Terry Tribune reports that 50 Prairie County residents signed a letter supporting the project.

FWP says the site sits in the middle of an access gap on the lower river, and a float from there to Fallon Bridge would take about half a day. Money would come from the state's lower Yellowstone access fund and from federal Dingell-Johnson excise taxes on fishing gear.

Comments are due Nov. 9 through the BLM ePlanning National NEPA Register, under NEPA number DOI-BLM-MT-C020-2026-0151-EA. FWP is also looking at a second site near Zero, but this comment period covers only the Terry site.
