About 725 trout set for Hannibal’s Huckleberry Park Lake on Nov. 3

US FishingMissouri

The Missouri Department of Conservation plans to stock about 725 trout in Huckleberry Park Lake in Hannibal on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Hannibal Courier-Post reported it. MDC fishery biologist Shelby Lovelace said most of the trout will weigh about 2 pounds and five bigger fish will weigh about 5 pounds. The trout will be trucked from Montauk Hatchery that morning.

MDC’s rules for the lake call it a winter trout fishing area. From Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, trout fishing there is catch-and-release only, and anglers may use only flies, artificial lures and unscented soft plastic baits. The paper says Feb. 1 is the first day trout can be kept. Keeping trout requires a trout permit, and the daily limit is four. A Missouri fishing permit is needed even for catch-and-release.

Other fish in the lake can be kept all year under the lake’s posted limits. The Courier-Post lists six largemouth bass under 12 inches or over 15 inches, four channel catfish, 30 crappie, and 20 of all other fish combined. Hannibal Parks and Recreation has a Community Assistance Program agreement with MDC for the lake. Under it, MDC pays half the cost of the trout and its biologists monitor the fish.
