Aquarium-raised lake sturgeon released into the St. Louis River at Duluth

Duluth's Great Lakes Aquarium has become a sturgeon nursery. Outdoor News reports that the aquarium is now rearing lake sturgeon in a partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
On Nov. 3, the partners released 255 tagged fingerlings into the St. Louis River. This year is the first of several planned releases.
The aquarium plans a new rearing building and a public exhibit. When finished, it could raise up to 3,500 sturgeon a year for the river. Duluth-area DNR Fisheries Supervisor Dan Wilfond took part in the release.
