Michigan DNR pauses its weekly fishing report until ice season; Manistique steelhead fair to good
Michigan anglers will have to rely on bait shops for a while. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says its weekly fishing report is suspended after the Nov. 4 edition, because its seasonal creel clerks have finished for the year. The report may come back early next year once ice fishing picks up.
The last report covered only the Upper Peninsula. At Manistique, steelhead fishing was fair to good. Most shore anglers caught several fish drifting egg patterns in orange, pink and chartreuse. They found a mix of year classes, though the rainbows are running smaller on average.
On Little Bay de Noc, weather kept many anglers off the water. In the upper bay, perch fishing was fair and walleye were slower, with anglers working drop-offs near the Escanaba River, along the east bank and near Saunders Point. Snap-style jigging baits, often with the front treble hook removed, and minnow-tipped jigs caught some fish. Crawler harnesses did little.
