Louisiana’s Oct. 3 calendar: fall shrimp open, Saline and Iatt drawn down through Oct. 5
Louisiana’s weekend outdoors calendar is a status sheet, not a new regulation. Joe Macaluso’s Oct. 3, 2026 column in The Advocate says the fall inshore shrimp season is open statewide and all outside waters are open.
On the recreational board he prints as open: greater amberjack through Oct. 14, gray triggerfish, flounder, and lane, blackfin, queen, and silk snappers, plus other snapper species, and groupers other than goliath and Nassau. Closed, in his list: private recreational red snapper and state and federal charter red snapper, commercial greater amberjack, bluefin tuna, and gag, goliath, and Nassau grouper in state and federal waters.
The access notes are the part that changes a drive. Closed: a portion of Dobbs Bay Road on Richard Yancey WMA for water-control construction; Hope Canal Road and the boat launch on Maurepas Swamp WMA for levee work; and the Reserve Relief Canal boat launch, by Corps of Engineers order, for pump-station construction. Alternate launches named in the column are Pete’s Landing, the Akers boat ramp, and the Bonnet Carré Spillway boat launch.
Drawdowns still on the sheet: Saline Lake and Iatt Lake through Oct. 5; Henderson Lake through Nov. 2; Cheniere Lake through Nov. 15; Clear-Smithport Lake through Nov. 16; Lake Bistineau through Nov. 30; Chicot Lake and Grand Bayou Reservoir through Jan. 4; Vernon Lake through Jan. 5.
This is a The Gillnet news desk summary, not a reprint.
