Altamaha Fall Bash: Hill and Howell win with 34.13 pounds
The Altamaha’s two-day fall tournament is in the books. Joshua Barber’s Oct. 3, 2026 southern waters report in Georgia Outdoor News says the Altamaha Fall Bash, held the weekend before that column, went to Austin Hill and Anthony Howell at 34.13 pounds. Richard Boatright and his partner Joey were second at 29.59 pounds. Joseph and Patrick were third at 29.11 pounds. The biggest bass of the event was 7.19 pounds.
Barber’s river gages, dated Oct. 2, were low. Doctortown on the Altamaha was 2.9 feet and steady. Lumber City on the Ocmulgee was 0.1 foot and falling. Clyo on the Savannah was 2.8 feet and steady. The Alapaha was 2.4 feet and steady at Statenville and 2.5 feet and rising at Alapaha. The Satilla was 5.3 feet and falling at Waycross and 3.8 feet and falling at Atkinson. Quitman on the Withlacoochee was 1.8 feet and steady. Macclenny on the St. Marys was 2.3 feet and steady. Fargo on the Suwannee was 1.7 feet and falling.
The same column says two open events were set for Saturday, Oct. 3, at Altamaha Park: the Three Rivers Trail tournament at $150, with a $2,000 guarantee for first, and the Altamaha River Rats Club tournament at $80. It does not print results for those Saturday weigh-ins. On the Okefenokee, Barber reports that Bob and his grandson George fished Sunday afternoon with Capt. Bert Deener and landed 15 bowfin after a slow first hour. The biggest was 23 inches and almost 4 pounds, on Dura-Spins. The east-side swamp level in the report was 120.04 feet.
This is a The Gillnet news desk summary, not a reprint.
