Delaware report: northeast wind pushes anglers to creeks for stripers, tog builds at Indian River Inlet

US FishingDelaware

Delaware's weekly DNREC fishing report, written by Eric Burnley Sr. and dated Oct. 29, says a persistent northeast wind kept the ocean and Delaware Bay rough. Nearly every fish came from sheltered water.

In the upper bay, Captain Bones reported white perch and catfish from Augustine Beach to Woodland Beach, and catfish were also biting in the C&D Canal. Around Leipsic, Smith Bait said stripers of 24 to 27 inches, plus a few of 28 to 31 inches, were taking bloodworms and shrimp in the tidal creeks. Crabbing there was rated excellent.

At Indian River Inlet, more keeper tautog came in on sand fleas, and stripers hit eels, plugs and bucktails at night. Tog were also caught from the pier at Massey's Landing. The surf gave up mostly skates. Offshore, the boat Whistle with Charlie Horning landed a 54-pound bluefin tuna off New Jersey.

In fresh water, Kelli Croft earned a citation for a 4.77-pound rainbow trout from White Clay Creek, and Mike Hrycak landed a 2.82-pound rainbow there too. Bass were reported from Silver Lake in Dover.
