Kodiak lets tenders into the herring sac-roe B season
Tenders may work the Kodiak herring sac-roe B season beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. Alaska Department of Fish and Game advisory No. 09, for emergency order 4-FH-K-09-26, was released at noon on Oct. 13.
The B season is state waters only and runs from July 1 through Oct. 25. Its guideline harvest level is 1,392 tons, figured as 35 percent of the remaining A-season guideline harvest level after 1,000 tons held back for the C season. Only designated sections are open. Purse seiners may fish from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Gillnets run from noon on even-numbered days to noon on odd-numbered days.
District harvest levels are 91 tons in Afognak, 280 in Uyak, 105 in Inner Marmot (Kizhuyak Bay), 758 on the Eastside, and 158 in Alitak. The rest of the Kodiak Area stays closed. Permit holders, tenders, and processors have to register with ADF&G in Kodiak before they take fish, and catch must be reported as soon as it is landed or nearby sections can be closed. Questions go to Geoff Spalinger at the Kodiak office, (907) 486-1830.
