Alaska FishingAlaska

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will open the Kodiak Area food and bait herring A season at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26. The guideline harvest level for the season is 1,280 tons, and fishing is limited to state waters. The opening was announced in an advisory released Oct. 21 under Emergency Order 4-FH-K-10-26.

The harvest limit is divided among eight districts: Eastside, 485 tons; Uganik, 320 tons; Uyak, 160 tons; West Afognak, 100 tons; Alitak, 90 tons; Inner Marmot, 80 tons; South Afognak, 25 tons; and North Afognak, 20 tons. Each district will close once its share is caught. The Offshore West Afognak, Outer Uganik and Offshore Uyak Bay sections stay closed.

Participants must register before fishing and report their catches immediately so managers can track each district's harvest. Questions go to ADF&G's Kodiak office (Geoff Spalinger, 907-486-1830).
