Virginia’s October catchable trout stocking starts Oct. 1. The Department of Wildlife Resources monthly schedule lists five waters that day: Big Moccasin Creek (Delayed Harvest, Scott County), Chestnut Creek (Delayed Harvest, Carroll County), Hawksbill Creek (Page County), Middle Fork Powell River (Delayed Harvest, Wise County), and Stock Creek (Scott County).

Oct. 2 adds the Dan River below the Powerhouse, Jackson River at Route 623, the North Fork Powell, the South Fork Holston at Buller Dam, and the Tye River.

Dates and places can change. Check the daily stocking schedule before you drive. Designated stocked trout waters require a trout license from Oct. 1 through June 15.
