Rhode Island’s Oct. 1 report: post-storm stripers, tog, and leftover hardtails
Rhode Island’s fall run is on after the nor’easter. On The Water’s Oct. 1, 2026 Rhode Island fishing report, by Will Sirotnak, says stripers are strong in the Providence and Seekonk rivers and throughout the bay. Topwater blitzes ran from Jamestown to Narragansett, with bluefish mixed in.
Bonito and false albacore were still around mid-bay and from Point Judith to Newport, though thinner after the storm. Tautog are improving in the shallows and in the Bay. Green crabs are beating whites, and the bite is in 20 to 40 feet, with keeper sea bass mixed with the tog. Frances Fleet canceled the storm week. Tog trips resume as conditions allow.
RIDEM’s fall trout stocking is also starting. That plant is already on the desk.
