Oklahoma Blue River bass and cats rated good; Kaw still producing
Oklahoma’s newest public fishing note is Blue River. The Sept. 22 Public Fishing and Hunting Area report on the Department of Wildlife Conservation page, filed by Ethan Lovelace, has the river at normal elevation and stable, 81°F and clear. Largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass were rated good on crankbaits, jigs, lipless baits, plastics, and spinnerbaits around brush, creek channels, points, the river channel, shorelines, and weed beds. Channel catfish were also good, on chicken liver, stinkbait, and worms around brush, channels, and rock.
The same page’s Sept. 21 Kaw Lake note has the reservoir 3 feet below normal and falling, 88°F and stained. Striped hybrids and white bass were good. So were blue, channel, and flathead catfish, and both black and white crappie. Keystone that same day sat 1 foot low and stable, 76°F and clear, with blue catfish good below the dam and on the main lake, largemouth good on plastics around brush, docks, points, and standing timber, and crappie only fair.
ODWC says March through June is when lake reports are required, so the late-September sheet is thinner than a spring report. These are the notes that were actually filed. Check the live page before a drive. Elevations and the bite move, and a warden report is a snapshot, not a promise.
