Maumee Tackle’s Oct. 2 note: a 28-inch walleye and a river still up

US FishingOhio

The Maumee is still a fall river, not a drained one. Mario Campos’s Oct. 2, 2026 report for Maumee Tackle says walleye came out of the river the day before, including a 28-inch fish, and that summer rain has held levels about where he wants them after three drought years. He writes that walleye, steelhead, pike, white bass, and smallmouth have had the water, and that the fall feed should run at least the next two months.

His map for this week is rapids and pools. Buttonwood and Bluegrass for walleye and smallmouth. Jerome Road rapids for catfish and smallmouth. Farnsworth for bigger cats and walleye. Weirs rapids for walleye, smallmouth, and pike. The Grand Rapids dam stretch for walleye, white bass, and steelhead. He starts people on a 1/8- to 1/4-ounce leadhead with a twister tail in green, pink, or motor-oil, and topwater Choppops in the pools below rapids for smallmouth.

This is a shop report from Maumee Tackle, not an Ohio Division of Wildlife survey. It is separate from Cleveland Metroparks’ Oct. 1 steelhead note already on the desk.
