Minnesota DNR confirms zebra mussels in Sauer and Eleventh Crow Wing lakes
Minnesota has two more zebra mussel confirmations. The Department of Natural Resources said Oct. 1 that mussels are in Sauer Lake in Becker County and Eleventh Crow Wing Lake in Hubbard County. The notice went out through EIN Presswire.
At Sauer Lake, near Detroit Lakes, a property owner found mussels on a boat pulled out for the season. A specialist then found more about 300 feet from that first report, at the public access. At Eleventh Crow Wing, near Akeley, a Hubbard County watercraft inspector found mussels on a boat, and DNR staff found more at the public access.
The usual steps still apply: clean, drain, dispose of unwanted bait, and dry docks and lifts for 21 days. Report a new infestation to a DNR invasive-species specialist.
