Michigan’s Sept. 30 weekly: Erie yellow perch rebound, Betsie kings moving
Lake Erie’s yellow perch bite picked up as the water cooled. Michigan DNR’s weekly fishing report for Sept. 30, 2026, says boats east of Stony Point, near the Ohio line, were taking about 30 good perch apiece on minnow perch rigs. Walleye were scarce and deep. Bass were on submerged cover.
On the Thumb, coho and steelhead were showing on the breakwalls at Port Sanilac and Harbor Beach. At Muskegon and Grand Haven, salmon were fair with lines 25 to 80 feet down in 60 to 180 feet, on green, blue, and orange spoons. The Grand Haven north pier is closed until about summer 2028. At Frankfort and the Betsie, cooler water brought chinook and coho. The pier was good in the evening and morning, and kings were in the deeper Betsie holes. Manistee, Ludington, and Onekama from this same weekly are already on the desk.
In the Upper Peninsula, pink salmon were plentiful in the Manistique River. Lake trout and coho mixed from Ontonagon to Black River Harbor. The DeTour lake trout flats closed at the end of the season on Sept. 30.
