Port Allen’s launch ramp on Kauaʻi reopens; harbor slips stay closed
Trailer boats can launch again at Port Allen. The Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources said the launch ramp at Port Allen Small Boat Harbor on Kauaʻi reopened effective immediately on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026.
The Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation finished an engineering site inspection and a sonar survey of the harbor waters and seafloor. The department said the ramp is safe to use and that the survey found no navigational hazards. Harbor slips and moorings are still closed because of damage from Hurricane Lowell.
Board of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson Ryan Kanakaʻole said the state is using available resources to restore ocean access from Port Allen. Questions about the harbor and ramp go to the Port Allen Harbor Office at 808-335-8400. Media contact on the release is Andrew Laurence, 808-587-0396.
